Flexible working (United Kingdom): Changes!
Since 30 June 2014, all employees have the legal right to request flexible working - not just parents and carers. This is known as ‘making a statutory application’. Employees must have worked for the same employer for at least 26 weeks to be eligible.
Types of flexible working
- Job sharing
- Working from home
- Part time
- Compressed hours
- Flexitime
- Annualised hours
- Staggered hours
- Phased retirement
For any application, employer must:
- Follow a strict procedure (cf. link gov.uk/flexible-working and document attached)
- Must tell the employee that they’ve rejected the application for a valid economic and/or social reason
